App Smashing for a Research Project...Camera Roll- PicCollage-& Thinglink...Oh My.....

Looking for a unique way for students to develop research?? When I was in the classroom I was always looking for an innovative way for students to present research...Watching 30 power points gets REALLY OLD and BORING!

App Smashing (using one app and sending the work into a second app) is a really neat and innovative way for students to present research!  These also can be shared out to parents, linked to twitter, shared in Edmodo, or posted on teacher websites.

I recently worked with 100 second graders to prepare a research project on "Habitats".  For this project they used the Camera Roll, PicCollage and Thinglink.  Students used a "4 square" to write down 4 facts about their "Habitat (tundra, desert, forest, etc.)".  Students used their Science textbooks and kidrex.org to find facts and research.  Then students went to images.google.com and located five to six images of the habitat they chose.  They saved the images to the "Camera Roll", opened "PicCollage" app and placed the images in a collage.  Next, they saved the "PicCollage" to the camera roll by selecting "Save to Library".  From there they opened "Thinglink".  Students created an account and uploaded the collage from their camera roll.  Lastly, they added their facts to "Thinglink" by clicking on the image and selecting "add text".  This gives a bullseye and allows students to add text to their images- that are then hidden under the bullseye.  Here is an example created just for fun by a first grader: https://www.thinglink.com/scene/553347624212627458

"Thinglink" allows you to add text, videos, and web links; all to a single image! Wow! AWESOME!! This project could be modified and used for any research project at any level....Have fun APP SMASHING.
